Communication, the art of throwing stones.
So how do you make a flame ?
How do you make a ripple ?
There is no correct answer. There are probably as many ways to start a ripple as there are randoms waiting in the toilet queue or walking down the same high street as you. But you need some form of communication.
For the purposes of this blog I will call these communication tools
Candles.
Because everytime you communicate to somebody you have the opportunity to cause a ripple. It may only be a small ripple but one day it may end up causing a tidal wave.
Think of how you met your wife or your partner. Think of how you ended up doing the job you do now. Think of how you ended up having the friendships that you have now.
Count the ripples, you may have difficulty in counting them because they are so numerous.
I personally met my wife in a queue of a nightclub in Wigan, Lancashire in the UK. I was having a night out with a friend who I met at college. I went to college because I didn't pass all my exams at high school. I didn't pass my exams because I was being bullied and had lost all interest in life. My friend was with me that night because I was there. If it hadn't been for this friend I wouldn't have been in that queue.
So let's look at the candles;
Bullied at school - Candle
Went to College - Candle
Met my new friend - Candle
WE both wanted a piss up - Candle
Four candles ( not fork handles !)
But I bet if I really thought about it there were more than a few candles involved in meeting my wife to be. Not to mention candles that belonged to my college friend.
So basically a candle can take many forms, but they all cause ripples.
I guess what I am trying to say is that the most important part of causing ripples and watching them change your life is to be aware of them. For this I would recommend keeping a Ripples Diary.
